| Aesthetic nasal surgery (rhinoplasty) involves changing the shape of the supporting structures of the nose so that the skin of the nose may take a nice shape. This is analogous to changing the tent poles to change the shape of the tent. Usually skin is not removed from the front or top fo the nose, and only the framework is modified. Some patients who have flaring of the nostrils will have some skin removed from this area. Exceedingly thick or heavy skin will sometimes require reshaping to optimize the final drape of the nose. Thinner skin will conform better to the new framework; a more delicate nose is possible with thinner skin. |
